One of Central Minnesota’s top hockey players is receiving statewide recognition.

St. Cloud Cathedral senior Griffin Sturm has been named the Class A recipient of the prestigious Herb Brooks Award, one of Minnesota high school hockey’s highest individual honors. The award recognizes players who exemplify leadership, character, sportsmanship, and a strong work ethic both on and off the ice.

Sturm played a major role in another successful season for the Crusaders, helping lead St. Cloud Cathedral through a highly competitive Class A schedule while continuing the school’s long-standing hockey tradition. Known for his leadership and consistency, Sturm became one of the most respected players in Minnesota high school hockey this season.

The Herb Brooks Award is named after legendary Minnesota coach Herb Brooks, who famously led Team USA to the “Miracle on Ice” gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics. Each year, the award honors student-athletes who reflect the same passion, dedication, and commitment to the game that Brooks represented throughout his career.

For St. Cloud Cathedral and the local hockey community, the honor adds another memorable chapter to the program’s rich history of producing standout athletes and leaders.

Congratulations to Griffin Sturm on an incredible achievement and a well-deserved honor.
