BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Fourteen Saint John's University hockey student-athletes achieved 2024-25 Winter and Spring Academic All-MIAC honors on Thursday, June 26.For the fifth-straight academic year, SJU led the MIAC in male honorees with a total of 173 in 2024-25, followed by Gustavus Adolphus (149), Macalester (134), St. Olaf (133) and Carleton (110). The Johnnies had 85 fall honorees in cross country, football and soccer.
Those honored (listed alphabetically) include:
-Senior defenseman Cooper Anderson (White Bear Lake, Minn.), a global business leadership and mathematics double-major with a 3.54 GPA;
-Sophomore defenseman Sam Berry (St. Louis Park, Minn.), a finance major with a 3.84 GPA;
-Sophomore forward Jackson Bisson (Edina, Minn.), a finance major with a 3.61 GPA;
-Senior forward Cody Carlson (Buffalo, Minn.), a global business leadership major with a 3.58 GPA;
-Senior forward Matt DeRosa (Alpharetta, Ga.), a computer science major with a 3.66 GPA;
-Senior defenseman Danny Eckerline (Wayzata, Minn.), an economics and global business leadership double-major with a 4.0 GPA;
-Junior goaltender Jon Howe (Chanhassen, Minn.), an accounting major with a 3.96 GPA;
-Senior goaltender Bailey Huber (Mahtomedi, Minn.), an exercise and health science major with a 3.59 GPA;
-Sophomore forward Chris Kernan (Maple Grove, Minn.), a global business leadership major with 3.50 GPA
-Sophomore forward Logan Lyke (Medina, Minn.), a finance major with a 4.0 GPA;
-Sophomore forward Jacob McPartland (Victoria, Minn.), a global business leadership major with a 3.91 GPA;
-Senior forward Jackson Sabo (Rosemount, Minn.), an accounting major with a 3.79 GPA;
-Junior defenseman Michael Spinner (Prior Lake, Minn.), a global business leadership major with a 3.69 GPA;
-Sophomore forward Jack Wandmacher (St. Louis Park, Minn.), a global business leadership major with a 3.71 GPA.
Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale to qualify for Academic All-MIAC recognition. Transfers, like freshmen, must complete a full academic year to be eligible the following season. Athletically, student-athletes must be a member of a MIAC-sponsored, varsity team and be academically and athletically eligible. The student-athlete must have utilized a season of participation (per NCAA and MIAC definitions) and have remained on the sports roster through the conclusion of the sports season.
The Academic All-MIAC honor is the third for Anderson, DeRosa, Eckerline and Sabo. Bisson, Carlson, DeRosa and Sabo were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District at-large team June 17.
SJU tied for third in the MIAC with an 8-7-1 record (11-14-1 overall) and made its seventh MIAC Playoff appearance in the last nine seasons in 2024-25.
